SilverSingles has a 1.3-star rating (out of 5) on Consumer Affairs and a 2.5-star rating on Trustpilot. Many people appreciated the personality test, similar to eHarmony, as well as the over-50 users. However, they weren’t so happy about the limited free membership. Some people complained about fake profiles as well, although the company claims it verifies every new member.

Drawbacks

After we spent 20 minutes on eHarmony’s compatibility quiz, we found that it gave us matches that we would actually get along with, not just pictures of people in our area.

Not every dating site has a quiz like this; for example, with OurTime, we just filled out our basic information, our preferences in a partner, and boom — we received options. We loved that eHarmony took the time to get to know us, as we’re more than just our height!

Another good feature of eHarmony is that it is so popular, not just among seniors, but among the general population. As of 2017, it had 10 million active users, according to Business Insider. This allowed us to match with active people of all ages, including seniors.

eHarmony has a 1.5-star rating (out of 5) on Consumer Affairs and a 3.3-star rating on Trustpilot, the highest rating on this list. Many people were upset because they got locked into a long-term contract and had trouble getting a refund, a problem we’ve seen on similar sites like Match. We don’t recommend you sign up for two years, even though it’s the cheapest option. If you find someone before then, you won’t want to be on the hook for $30 per month.

Drawbacks

The biggest drawbacks of eHarmony are undoubtedly its pricing and long-term contracts. It has the highest prices of any dating site we’ve tested out, as the average cost is around $20 per month. While the free version of OurTime certainly isn’t perfect, as it didn’t allow us to message our matches, we loved that we could see their faces, send unlimited likes, search regularly, and get 12 Top Picks. We used OurTime for free and could still search for members near us, send as many likes as we wanted, and get 12 Top Picks per day, profiles OurTime thought we’d like the most. This is the same amount we would’ve gotten with the paid version. But the real kicker is that the pictures aren’t blurred in the free version, which isn’t the case with the free versions of eHarmony and SilverSingles. If you are getting back into dating and just want to see what’s out there, this is a great way to do it without having to pull out your credit card.

That being said, there’s no such thing as a free lunch, and the biggest caveat is that we couldn’t message our matches. To actually message would require an upgrade, but perhaps you can save money by waiting until you find someone you can’t wait to speak to.
