Frontier Internet for Seniors: Reviews and Prices

With plans starting at less than $30 a month and no required annual commitments or data overage fees, Frontier Internet is a cost-effective service for older adults. What’s more, Frontier also offers several home phone and television plans like YouTube TV, which provide access to 100 channels including ESPN, FX, ABC, the Disney Channel, and more.
What sets Frontier apart from the pack is that all of their plans are for fiber internet. When comparing fiber to broadband, fiber internet is faster and more reliable, although it’s available in fewer locations, according to telecom business West Wisconsin Telcom. As of March 2025, Frontier is only available in 28 states, including Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
That being said, if you live in a state where it’s available, Frontier Internet offers a fast and reliable internet connection that won’t break the bank, making the company a great choice for affordable internet service.

Frontier Internet Pros and Cons
Frontier Internet Pros
- No overage charges: All of Frontier’s plans come with unlimited data. This means you won’t experience overage charges or data caps, so you can use as much internet as you’d like without incurring penalties or extra charges.
- Affordable pricing: Frontier plans start at less than $30 per month, which is notably less than other competitors, such as Viasat’s internet plans or HughesNet’s internet plans.
- Fast fiber internet: Frontier offers fiber internet plans with speeds up to 7,000 Mbps.
- Price locks: High-speed internet plans from Frontier come with a one-year price lock guarantee.
Frontier Internet Cons
- Limited service area: Unlike some satellite internet providers that cover the entire country, Frontier internet only covers 28 states in the U.S. As of 2024, fiber internet is only available in 57 percent of U.S. households, according to the Fiber Broadband Association. That being said, Verizon’s acquisition of Frontier will close in 2026 and will expand the company’s reach to nine states plus Washington, D.C., according to a Frontier press release.
- Early termination fees: Because all of Frontier’s fiber plans include professional installation, you’ll be required to sign up for 12 months, although you’ll be billed monthly. If you cancel service within the first two months, you’ll have to pay a $100 early termination fee plus a $50 requirement restocking fee.

Which Frontier Plan Is Best for Seniors?
In our opinion, the best Frontier plan for seniors who want access to basic internet features and occasional streaming is the Fiber 500 plan, which starts at $44.99 per month with autopay. Although speeds vary depending on location, it’s a good basic starter plan for seniors who want to send emails to loved ones, check online banking, and do some light online shopping or streaming.
For the first 12 months of service, you’ll pay around $45 a month, which is a great incentive for those who are looking for affordable internet. However, the downside is that the monthly price will increase after your first year is up.

Frontier Purchase and Installation
You can purchase Frontier internet by visiting the company’s website and selecting a plan. Simply enter your home address in Frontier’s location search bar to find out whether Frontier internet is available in your area. Once you purchase a plan, you can also check your account information and set up autopay and paperless billing. Fiber internet requires professional installation, as technicians will need to install a fiber optic service line. Here’s how that process works in more detail:
- You’ll choose an installation date when you purchase your fiber internet plan.
- The technician may need to visit your home a few days before your installation date to install the Optical Network Terminal, or ONT. (You don’t need to be home for this as long as the technician has access to your property.)
- You’ll download the MyFrontier app and will receive a push notification when your technician is on their way, with an estimated time of arrival to boot.
- When your technician arrives, they will set up the router, assuming they’ve already installed the ONT, along with its wiring.
- Your technician will test your internet speeds before they leave, making sure the connection is solid.
Unlike with many competitors, such as Xfinity internet, you won’t be able to install Frontier’s internet on your own. That said, professional installation is free with Frontier, and it won’t require any work on your end.
Frontier Internet Equipment
All plans come with a router in addition to the ONT that the installer will bury in your lawn. You won’t pay for any of the equipment, although you may have to return the router if you cancel service. If you do not return the required equipment within 30 days, Frontier might charge you up to $500 for each unreturned device.
Frontier vs. Spectrum
Frontier and Spectrum are two popular internet options for seniors, but Frontier is cheaper at every level, even when you account for speed. Frontier has faster internet, as all of its plans are fiber. Frontier also has free professional installation, while you’ll need to pay $30 to install your Spectrum internet yourself. Spectrum internet is truly month-to-month, however, while Frontier requires a 12-month commitment.
Plans | Frontier | Spectrum |
---|---|---|
Starting Price (Internet Only) | $29.99 per month | $30 per month |
Price Increases | Yes, after first year | Yes, after first year |
Speeds | 200 Mbps to 7,000 Mbps | 56 Mbps to 2,269 Mbps |
Data Caps | None | None |
Long-Term Contracts | 12 months | Not required |

Bottom Line
Overall, Frontier Internet offers affordable internet plans for less than $30 per month for 12 months, with no annual commitments. With unlimited data and no overage fees, it also stands out among competitors who often nickel-and-dime you at every turn. With that said, the company’s prices and speeds will vary based on location, so you’ll want to check with your local provider to see which offers are available.
