FirstLight Home Care Services offers a variety of essential home care services for seniors, including seniors with memory impairments. Some of the services they provide include companion care, personal care, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease care, respite care, and travel companion care.

• Dementia and Alzheimer’s care: FirstLight Home Care takes a personalized approach to specialized dementia and Alzheimer’s care. The company tailors programs to deliver one-on-one care plans that help your loved one feel comfortable.
• Personal care: FirstLight Home Care provides a variety of personal care services to help clients maintain dignity and independence. Services include bathing and hygiene, walking and mobility assistance, toileting care, meal prep, and eating assistance for adults with physical and emotional challenges.
• Rehab and recovery care: Following an injury, surgery, or a consequence of a chronic illness, this care involves transporting patients to hospitals or rehabs, getting medications and reminding people to take them, helping them do their exercises, and caretaking activities such as laundry, housekeeping, meal prep, and assistance with bathing.
• Respite care: FirstLight Home Care Services offers respite care for family caregivers to ensure loved ones are taken care of while they rest and take some time off to recharge. Services include laundry, light housekeeping, medication reminders, and meal preparation.
• Skilled nursing: Licensed registered nurses (RNs), or someone under the supervision of one, will remind people to take their medications; test their blood sugar; treat wounds; care for catheters, ostomies, lines, drains, and tubes; administer breathing treatments; and generally manage a patient’s care.
• Travel Companion care: If you have a loved one who needs assistance during their travels, a FirstLight caregiver can accompany them. FirstLight is one of the few at-home care agencies that offers this service.

While each FirstLight Home Care office will have slightly different prices and policies, you can expect the following from your local branch:

• FirstLight caregivers will cost between $32 and $50 per hour.
• Some locations require four-hour minimum visits, while others simply charge more if you book fewer than four hours.
• Care is booked through a service agreement (rather than a contract), meaning you can cease or pause care at any time.
• To begin care, a FirstLight representative will conduct an in-home assessment.

FirstLight is a franchise, meaning locations are independently owned and operated. We recommend checking out customer reviews specifically for your nearest location on sites like Google, Yelp, and the Better Business Bureau. That said, FirstLight Home Care’s rating on Trustpilot, which doesn’t differentiate by location, is 2.9 out of five stars. That low rating is based on only two reviews, however: one rating of five stars and one one-star review. Let’s take a closer look:

“I would like to write a performance review, but I’m unable to. After a very promising interview with Mr. Harvey, which he said that he was ready to provide services within the next 48 hours, I received a message from him stating that he would not be able to provide services for my wife (stage 7 dementia) since he had a backlog waiting list of over a month. Apparently the six or seven questions I had concerning clarifications…. CLARIFICATIONS in his contract were unacceptable. Filling in blanks and potential open ended unspecified charges in the contract was also unacceptable. The decision, according to Mr. Harvey was made after consulting with his staff.”- October, 2024

Cost & Pricing

Costs will vary based on the services you need as well as the location. In Arizona, for example, our clients paid $38 an hour, $2 more than the state’s average, according to Genworth. In Pennsylvania, the cost is $34 to $36 per hour with a four-hour minimum, while the state average is only $31 an hour. Finally, in Florida, clients have paid the following, based on how many hours they book:

• Four hours or more: $32 an hour
• Between two and three hours: $40 an hour
• Two hours or fewer: $50 an hour

The average in Florida is $30, making FirstLight slightly more expensive than the average. However, since the company is a franchise, you’ll have to check with your nearest location to get an accurate quote.
