Snapfon for Seniors: Plans, Prices and Reviews
With plans starting at $15 per month, Snapfon is one of the most affordable cellular providers available. All plans include unlimited talk and text; the only factor that differentiates them is the amount of data, specifically high-speed data, each month.
While Snapfon puts relatively modest caps on high-speed data usage, we think this provider is ideal for those who primarily use their phone for talking and texting.

Snapfon Pros and Cons
Snapfon Pros
- Affordable plans: Plans start at $15 a month for 1GB of data; they go all the way up to $40 for unlimited data and 30GB of high-speed data.
- 5G coverage: If you purchase a plan with data coverage, you’ll have access to high-speed 5G coverage on Snapfon’s network.
- Senior-friendly devices: Snapfon offers the ez4G and the ezFlip 4G — easy flip phones for seniors with large buttons and text — fall detection, and optional emergency response SOS service.
- No long-term contracts: All Snapfon cellular plans work month-to-month, meaning you won’t have to lock into any binding contracts with hidden cancellation fees.
Snapfon Cons
- Senior phones lack 5G: Both of Snapfon’s flip phones only work on 4G networks, not 5G. So, you’ll have trouble accessing high-speed data while browsing the internet.
- No senior discount: While Snapfon advertises its plans for seniors, it does not offer plans for seniors, specifically — just simple phones like the ez4G and the ezFlip 4G.
- SOS costs more money: If you want to use the emergency response button on either of Snapfon’s flip phones, it’ll cost an additional $40 per month. This price is far more costly than our favorite medical alert systems.
Snapfon Plans and Costs
All Snapfon plans include unlimited talk and text. The main difference between them will be how much high-speed data is included. While several of its plans include “unlimited” data, buyers should be aware that high-speed data will have a cap. After reaching this cap, data speeds will be slowed to 128kbps for the remainder of the billing period.

Snapfon Plans for Seniors
Currently, Snapfon does not offer a specific plan or discount for older adults. However, we think that the 1GB plan will work for most seniors who want to use their phones primarily for talk and text. For $15 a month, you can talk and text as much as you want and use up to 1GB of high-speed data.

How to Purchase Snapfon
To purchase a phone and plan from Snapfon, we’d recommend checking out its website. There, you can take a look at each of the phones, if you want to buy a new one, and choose your plan. Once you’ve chosen a plan, you have the option of either keeping your existing phone or purchasing one of Snapfon’s devices.
Snapfon Phones
Snapfon offers phones specifically for seniors as well as more typical smartphones from companies like Apple, Samsung, and Blu. Prices range from $89 to $599. Below, we’ve described the two phones for seniors: the ez4G and the ezFlip 4G.
Snapfon ez4G
One of our favorite devices from Snapfon is the ez4G. This simple phone costs $99 and requires a data plan. In addition to being hearing aid-compatible, this phone features fall detection, large buttons, Wi-Fi, and a camera. It also includes an SOS button. In an emergency, you can press the button and get connected with emergency services or medical questions. However, this SOS service is an add-on that costs an additional $40 a month.
Snapfon ezFlip 4G
The only difference between the ez4G and the ezFlip 4G is that the ezFlip is a flip phone, which some seniors may feel more comfortable with. Otherwise, they’re exactly the same in terms of features and costs.
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
Want to keep your own phone and number? You can opt to keep your existing device and either get an eSIM card or a physical SIM card to use on the Snapfon network. The eSIM is free, as it isn’t a physical object, while the SIM card costs about $19. You’ll also have to pay for shipping. This charge, depending on where you live and how fast you need it, could cost anywhere from a few dollars to $50.
Did You Know: If you want to just purchase a Snapfon SIM card, then you’ll need an unlocked phone. Read our guide to the best unlocked phones for seniors to learn more.
Snapfon Pricing
All of Snapfon’s prepaid plans work on a monthly basis. Plus, with any of the plans, you’ll pay the amount you sign up for: either $15, $20, $30, or $40 a month, depending on your high-speed data limits. You can cancel at any time without having to pay an early termination fee, as you’re not locked into a long-term contract.
Extra Fees
Snapfon lacks activation fees and overage fees, but it may charge you if you’re late to pay for your plan; Snapfon does not advertise how much the late fees are. Additionally, Snapfon only works in the U.S., so you can’t use it to call or text people in other countries. Also, you can’t use it while traveling abroad.
Snapfon sosPlus Plans
In addition to offering traditional cellular service, Snapfon offers its sosPlus mobile monitoring service. For $40 per month, this service turns your phone into a medical alert system. It gives you quick access to trained monitoring agents who can provide assistance in the event of an emergency.

Snapfon Mobile Network Coverage
Snapfon uses T-Mobile’s 4G LTE and 5G networks, so you will have access to nationwide coverage. As the country's largest 5G provider, T-Mobile’s 5G coverage is accessible to 98 percent of Americans; its 4G coverage is at 99 percent.
Data Speeds
Snapfon lists the maximum speeds available on the T-Mobile network, which are:
- Download speeds: 73 to 341Mbps for 5G, 9 to 48Mbps for 4G LTE
- Upload speeds: 7 to 32Mbps for 5G, 3 to 18Mbps for 4G LTE
- Latency: 19 to 37ms for 5G, 24 to 40ms for 4G LTE
These speeds are fast enough to video chat, watch movies on your phone, and download large files. However, once you use your allotment of high-speed data per month, which ranges from 1 to 30GB, speeds will slow, and you’ll have to wait until the next month (or upgrade) to access this high-speed data.
Snapfon vs. T-Mobile
Snapfon’s prices start at a much lower rate than T-Mobile’s senior plans. However, this $15 per month rate will get you only 1GB of high-speed data per month; T-Mobile’s rate of $45, three times as expensive, gets you 50GB of high-speed data per month — five times the amount of Snapfon. Additionally, you can get up to 100GB of premium data with T-Mobile, while Snapfon taps out after 30GB per month.
In other words, if you think you are going to use a lot of high-speed data, T-Mobile is for you. But, if you want to keep prices low and use your phone for talking and texting, mostly, you can save a ton with Snapfon.

Bottom Line
Snapfon doesn’t offer as much premium data as its parent network, T-Mobile. But, we think it’s one of the best providers out there for affordable cellular service. What’s more, you won’t have to pay overage charges, activation fees, or early termination fees, as all contracts are month-to-month.
