Over the years, we’ve come to know Eargo as the Apple of over-the-counter hearing aids. Their devices are impressively small, sleek, and high tech. And much like Apple, Eargo devices come at a premium.
Eargo’s latest model, the Eargo 7, costs $2,950 for a pair. While this may be expensive when coFmpared to other OTC hearing aids, it has some advanced sound features that, for some users, might make it worth this cost.
In this review of Eargo 7, we’ll take a closer look at Eargo’s newest OTC hearing aid, walking through how it performs and how it compares to other devices on the market.
Pro Tip: The Eargo 7 is a high-performing hearing aid; however, it costs twice as much as our other favorites. To find hearing aids for less than $1,000, read this list of our favorite OTC hearing aids.
Eargo 7 Pros and Cons
Pros
- Small size: Similar to prior Eargo models, the Eargo 7 is incredibly small. When worn, it fits completely in the ear canal and is nearly invisible.
- Automatic sound adjustments: Building on the Eargo 6’s Sound Adjust feature, Eargo 7 hearing aids have more advanced sound adjustments that automatically shift based on the user’s environment.
- Lifetime support from hearing specialists: While other OTC hearing aid brands charge extra for audiologist support, Eargo 7 users get lifetime remote support from Eargo’s hearing specialists.
- Water- and sweat-resistant: Eargo 7 hearing aids are rated IPX7 in terms of water resistance.
- Two-year warranty: Eargo 7 hearing aids come with a two-year warranty that covers defects, accidental damage, and even loss of the devices themselves.
Cons
- High costs: At nearly $3,000 for a pair, Eargo 7 hearing aids are among the more expensive OTC hearing aids we’ve reviewed.
- No Bluetooth: Although you can adjust Eargo 7 settings through your smartphone, you cannot stream music or calls as you can with Jabra Enhance hearing aids.

Eargo 7 Features
While the Eargo 7 may look nearly identical to the Eargo 6 (and the Eargo 5, for that matter), the hearing aids differ beyond their price points.
Here’s everything you can expect:
Sound Adjust+
While the Eargo 6 introduced us to Sound Adjust, which automatically adapted our hearing aids to our environment, the Eargo 7 features Sound Adjust+, which claims to offer additional sound clarity.
In our experience, we found this was the case. Sound Adjust+ allowed us to go from watching TV to having a conversation in a crowded restaurant without having to manually adjust them. Sounds continually came in clearly, with minimal interference from background noise.
IPX7 Water-Resistance
Eargo 7 hearing aids are rated IPX7 in terms of water resistance, meaning they can be submerged up to 1 meter in water for 30 minutes. So while we wouldn’t recommend wearing them in the pool, they can certainly handle sweat, rain, or the occasional accident with water.
Eargo App
Similar to prior Eargo models, Eargo 7 hearing aids allow you to adjust settings through a smartphone app. Here, you can adjust volume, frequencies, and different sound environments.
Unfortunately, Eargo hearing aids have yet to support Bluetooth audio streaming.
Sound Match
With the Eargo 7 Sound Match feature, you can take a hearing test on your smartphone, and your hearing aids will adjust their settings to your current situation.
Rechargeable Batteries and Charging Case
Eargo 7 hearing aids have rechargeable batteries that lasted us up to 19 hours on a single charge. Strangely enough, this was slightly less than the battery life we tested on the Eargo 6.
The included charging case (similar to an AirPod case) can also store an additional three charges, making it easier to bring these hearing aids on the go.
Eargo 7 Costs
A pair of Eargo 7 hearing aids currently costs $2,950. Often they’re on sale for $2,650. Regardless, this cost includes the following:
- Two Eargo 7 hearing aids
- One charging case
- Eartips for the hearing aids
- Cleaning tools
- Free access to the Eargo app
Eargo also offers financing options for its hearing aids. In the case of the Eargo 7, financing can bring your costs down to $87 per month.
Using My Eargo 7 Hearing Aids
After unboxing and charging my Eargo 7 hearing aids, my first step was to take the hearing test within the Eargo app. This 10-minute exam gauged my hearing at a number of different frequencies and then automatically adjusted the hearing aids to account for this.
During this time, the app also let me create four different environmental programs. While you can always pull out your phone to fine-tune your hearing aid settings, these four programs can be adjusted quickly by tapping on your ear. The default settings include television, restaurant, and music.
Once I took the hearing aids out into the world, I was impressed by how much the sound quality improved upon that of the Eargo 6.
Sound Adjust+
The Eargo 6 hearing aids featured Sound Adjust, a feature that automatically allowed the hearing aids to focus on speech frequencies while eliminating noise. With the Eargo 7 hearing aids, we have Sound Adjust+.
Naturally, with this kind of title, my expectations were low in terms of improvement over Sound Adjust; however, after using these hearing aids, I was shocked at how well they functioned.
With Sound Adjust+, I could walk into a crowded coffee shop, and the hearing aids would automatically adjust. Background conversations were drowned out, allowing me to talk easily with the cashier. Elsewhere, on walks through my neighborhood, I noticed how well these hearing aids drowned out wind noise, allowing me to better hear my surroundings.
With most other hearing aids, you can manually adjust them to reduce background noise, so I was very pleased with how well Eargo 7 hearing aids automatically accomplished this.
Eargo 7 Support
While prescription hearing aids are more expensive than OTC hearing aids, an advantage of them is that they’ll include in-person support from an audiologist or hearing specialist. These professionals can help a hearing aid user fit their hearing aids to their particular type of hearing loss.
With a purchase of Eargo 7 hearing aids, you receive lifetime remote support from Eargo hearing specialists at no extra cost. Other hearing aid brands like Jabra and Lively charge extra for audiologist support, so this is an extra that sets Eargo above the competition.
Eargo 7 Returns and Warranties
You can return Eargo 7 hearing aids within 45 days for a full refund. For most people, this will be more than enough time to figure out if they work for you.
Eargo 7 hearing aids also come with a one-year warranty that covers unlimited repairs of the hearing aids and charger and one-time replacement for accidental damage or loss.
Eargo 7 vs. Eargo 6
The Eargo 6 and Eargo 7 look nearly identical. While they share many similarities, the two models differ in terms of cost, sound adjustments, and warranties.
Eargo 7 hearing aids cost $2,950 while Eargo 6 costs $2,250, and the Eargo 7 includes a two-year warranty compared to one year for the Eargo 6.
Additionally, the Eargo 7 has a slightly more advanced version of Sound Adjust, aptly called Sound Adjust+. With this feature, we experienced increased clarity in the sound of our hearing aids.

Bottom Line
While Eargo 7 hearing aids are a bit more expensive than other OTC hearing aids, their small size and advanced features make them well worth the cost of entry. No other hearing aid that we’ve tested has such advanced automatic adjustments, and no one else includes free support from audiologists.
The primary downsides of the Eargo 7, however, would have to be the price and the lack of Bluetooth streaming.
