How We Chose Our Favorites
- Membership size: To increase your chances of meeting someone special, we selected dating sites with large user bases, particularly ones that have sizable Black and mixed-race populations.
- Matching features: We favored sites that produce compatible matches using advanced algorithms based on personality surveys.
- Cost: We chose services that offer the best balance of affordability and probability of meeting a great match.
- Online reviews: We also tempered our personal experiences using dating sites with customer reviews from Trustpilot and Consumer Affairs.
Our Top Picks
1. SilverSingles - Best Overall
What We Like Most:
- 80 percent of its users are 50 or older
- 381,000 new members each month worldwide
- Personality test
- Free version
Overview
If you’re a senior looking to meet someone of a similar age, check out SilverSingles. While it’s technically available to anyone 18 or older, eight out of 10 customers fall into the over-50 category, making it much more likely you’ll meet someone as seasoned as you.
Standout Features
While SilverSingles is primarily intended for seniors, it’s open to any race. However, to specify that you only want to meet other Black people, you can go into your preferences and check off Black or African American. Even more specifically, we were able to tell SilverSingles how important this was to use on a scale of “not important” to “very important.” Other preferences include religion, education, income, distance, age, height, and smoking and drinking habits. We could also filter by “desire to have children,” but let’s be honest: most seniors are probably past this stage.
Another thing we appreciated about SilverSingles was its personality test. Aside from our basic information and preferences, we also took a test that asked us which pictures we preferred from a group: pictures of desks, shapes, etc. While it was a bit long, getting deeper than our stated preferences was nice.
Pricing
Although SilverSingles has a free version, we couldn’t see people’s pictures, nor could we message them, making a paid subscription a necessity. The prices are pretty average, starting at around $20 a month with a 12-month package.
SilverSingles Membership Pricing
Term length in months | Cost per month | Total amount billed |
---|---|---|
3 | $39.95 | $119.85 |
6 | $22.95 | $137.70 |
12 | $19.95 | $239.40 |
What Others Are Saying
Remember when we said that we’d take online customer reviews with a grain of salt? SilverSingles has a 1.3 rating on Consumer Affairs and a 2.5 rating on Trustpilot from 565 reviews total. People weren’t happy about the limitations of the free membership, but they did appreciate the compatibility quiz as well as the senior majority on the site.
Drawbacks
SilverSingles isn’t specific to Black people, and while we could search for singles by ethnicity, some people would prefer using a site designed for Black users. Additionally, some Black-focused websites, like BlackPeopleMeet and BlackSeniorDating, have much more robust free subscriptions, with unblurred photos and limited messaging. If you want to avoid paying for a membership, you may be better off at one of those sites.
Our Verdict
If you’re willing to shell out some money, SilverSingles will give you a diverse array of options in your area. To learn more about this service, read our SilverSingles review.
Pros
- Mostly people 50 and older
- Compatibility quiz
- Free version
- Hundreds of thousands of new members each month
Cons
- Not specific to Black people
- Free version doesn’t include unblurred photos or messages
2. BlackPeopleMeet - Most Affordable
What We Like Most:
- Specific to Black people
- Quick sign-up process
- Ability to specify which preferences are deal breakers
- Prices start at $9.99 per month
Overview
BlackPeopleMeet is a website where Black people 18 and older can meet each other. Essentially, it’s Match but for Black people, owned by the same company, Match Group. The best part is that prices start at $9.99 per month, making it half the price of Match.com.
Standout Features
It only took us around five minutes to make profiles and start matching on BlackPeopleMeet. First, we entered our sex, the sex we were looking for, our birthday, email address, usernames, passwords, heights, body types, and relationship statuses, which specifically didn’t include “it’s complicated” (no emotionally unavailable people here!). We also specified our education levels, smoking/drinking habits, ethnicities, religions, whether or not we had kids, and what we were looking for in a relationship, be it a serious relationship or just seeing what’s out there.
Then, we filled in our partner preferences for the exact same categories, and we could choose which category was a deal-breaker. For example, if we only wanted to match with Black people, we could choose “Black” under ethnicity and make that a deal-breaker. Even though BlackPeopleMeet is Black-focused, technically, it’s open to any ethnicity, so we appreciated this feature for someone looking for a person of the same race.
Pricing
We said it was the most affordable, right? Had we signed up for a year, BlackPeopleMeet would have cost us only $9.99 per month, or $119.88 total. But even the three-month package is affordable at only $19.99 a month.
BlackPeopleMeet Membership Pricing
Term length in months | Cost per month | Total amount billed |
---|---|---|
3 | $19.99 | $59.97 |
6 | $11.99 | $71.94 |
12 | $9.99 | $119.88 |
As BlackPeopleMeet is essentially the same site and user experience as Match.com, but for half the prices, this is quite the steal.
What Others Are Saying
Being a much smaller site than one like eHarmony, which has thousands of reviews across Consumer Affairs and Trustpilot, no one has reviewed BlackPeopleMeet on either site yet. We’ll check back, but the lack of reviews makes sense for a more niche site; as you’ll see, BlackSeniorDating doesn’t have any reviews on these sites, either.
Drawbacks
BlackPeopleMeet’s lack of reviews suggests that it has a much smaller user base than Match.com, which has a total of 565 reviews on Consumer Affairs and Trustpilot. With any niche site, fewer people are going to use it, because fewer people exist in that demographic.
As of the most recent U.S. Census population estimates in July, 2023, Black or African American people made up less than 14 percent of the U.S. population. Compare that to a site marketed toward every race, and it stands to reason that there are fewer people on BlackPeopleMeet than on a more general site like Match or eHarmony.
Our Verdict
If you’re serious about finding a Black partner and want a site designed for you specifically, BlackPeopleMeet is an affordable option.

Pros
- Targeted at Black people specifically
- Costs less than $10 per month
- Sign-up takes only a few minutes
- Text message identity verification
Cons
- Lack of online reviews
- Not specific to seniors
3. eHarmony - Best for Long-Term Relationships
What We Like Most:
- Detailed compatibility quiz
- Second-most popular dating site for seniors
- Most recognized dating website (not including apps)
- 750,000 paid subscribers as of 2017
Overview
If you’ve heard of one dating site on this list, it’s probably eHarmony. That’s because, excluding app-only dating services like Tinder, eHarmony is the dating site U.S. adults are most aware of, according to data from Statista. Why does brand awareness matter for a dating site? Because the more that people are aware of a site, the bigger the dating pool becomes.
Standout Features
You may be noticing that eHarmony isn’t specific to seniors or Black people. While that may seem like a disadvantage to some Black seniors seeking the same, we like to think of it as a net positive, as the site provides the widest dating pool out there. 71 percent of U.S. adults are aware of the eHarmony brand, compared to 69 percent with Match and 54 percent with Plenty of Fish. Plus, eHarmony is used by 38 percent of U.S. online daters ages 70 and older, 30 percent of people ages 60 to 69, and 28 percent of people ages 50 to 59. Especially if you’re in that 70 or older category, eHarmony is a great place to find other seniors, according to 2022 Pew Research data.
Aside from providing a large dating pool, eHarmony is marketed toward people seeking long-term relationships, not just casual hookups. Forty-nine percent of online daters ages 50 and older are dating online to meet a long-term spouse or partner. Unlike Tinder or Hinge, eHarmony took the time to get to know us with a lengthy compatibility quiz. While we were a bit impatient, we appreciated the higher-quality matches that were about more than just our looks — which are fantastic, by the way.
Pricing
The bad news is that eHarmony, unlike Black-centric dating sites like BlackPeopleMeet and BlackSeniorDating, isn’t cheap. Prices start at around $30 a month, three times the price of the aforementioned sites, and that’s only with a 24-month commitment.
eHarmony Membership Pricing
Term length in months | Cost per month | Total amount billed |
---|---|---|
6 | $59.90 | $359.40 |
12 | $39.90 | $478.80 |
24 | $29.90 | $717.60 |
But what you’re really paying for is the larger dating pool. While there is a free option, all the photos are blurred, making it only an option for someone who really doesn’t care about looks.
What Others Are Saying
Being a larger and better-known site, we weren’t surprised to see that eHarmony has nearly 3,000 reviews on Consumer Affairs and 1,400 on Trustpilot, a total of more than 4,300. But while the site had a decent 3.3 rating on Trustpilot, the people on Consumer Affairs gave it only a 1.5. Many people took issue with the high prices and limited free version, although others applauded the compatibility quiz, which gave them higher quality matches.
Drawbacks
There’s no doubt that the biggest drawback of eHarmony is its pricing. You can pay one-third of the cost at sites designed for Black people. Also, eHarmony isn’t specifically made for Black people or seniors, so you’ll have to be specific with your filters to find what you’re looking for.
Our Verdict
Though it may be expensive, eHarmony is made for those looking for serious relationships — and that’ll cost you. To learn more about this site, read our eHarmony senior dating review.
Pros
- Over 70 percent of U.S. adults recognize it
- Most popular dating site for seniors
- According to Business Insider, has 750,000 paid subscribers and about 10 million active users as of 2017
- Compatibility quiz favors those seeking long-term relationships
Cons
- Expensive
- Subscriptions available at six months at a minimum
- Not specific to Black people or seniors
4. Match.com - Best With In-Person Events
What We Like Most:
- Most popular dating app among seniors
- 37 percent of its users are 50 or older
- Match Events in-person
- Free version includes messaging and likes
Overview
Match is the only dating site on this list to offer in-person events as well as online dating services. These events occur throughout the year at various locations around the country, so you can combine your online dating efforts with some real-world experiences and let the sparks fly.
Standout Features
Match Events are available whether you’re a free or paid user (although paid users get discounts). They’re opportunities to meet other members in person; some are less structured, like happy hours, and others are more structured, like specific group activities. The cost varies by the type of event, but the real value is in the people you’ll meet. Sometimes, you have to meet someone in person to see if there’s chemistry, and Match Events let you meet a lot of people in a short period of time. Talk about efficiency!
Match is the most popular dating app for seniors, according to a 2022 Pew Research survey. It’s used by more than half of dating site users in their 50s and 60s and over 40 percent of those in their seventies and older. Plus, according to Match itself, people ages 50 and over make up 37 percent of its total users, so while the site may not be specific to Black people or seniors, it has both in droves.
Pricing
Although Match is super popular among seniors, its pricing is similar to SilverSingles, starting at around $20 a month with an annual package. While it’s not quite as cheap as BlackPeopleMeet and BlackSeniorDating, $20 a month is a standard cost for a dating site.
Match Membership Pricing
Term length in months | Cost per month | Total amount billed |
---|---|---|
3 | $39.99 | $119.97 |
6 | $24.99 | $149.94 |
12 | $19.99 | $239.88 |
Match does have a free version, but the messaging features are limited, and you won’t get those Match Events discounts. We recommend paying for the full package.
What Others Are Saying
From 3,345 reviews total, Match has a 1.7 rating on Consumer Affairs and a 2.1 rating on Trustpilot. Most of the complaints stemmed from the memberships; some people claimed that they still got charged even after they canceled their memberships, and customer service was hard to reach. If this is a concern for you, stick with the free version.
Drawbacks
Match lacks the comprehensive compatibility quiz of a site like eHarmony, so you’ll get matched based on more surface-level demographics like height, smoking habits, and age. Additionally, the app isn’t specific to seniors or Black people, although you’ll find tons of both groups. It may just take more weeding out, especially with the free version.
Our Verdict
If you want to cast a wide net and don’t mind the lack of a personality test, Match is a great way to meet people both online and in-person.

Pros
- In-person events
- Free version
- Quick sign up process
- Most popular dating app for seniors
Cons
- No compatibility quiz
- Match Events cost extra
- Some people had difficulty canceling their memberships and getting refunds
5. BlackSeniorDating.net - Best Free Option
What We Like Most:
- Specific to Black people and seniors
- Free version includes unblurred photos, messaging, and likes
- Five-day trial available
- Paid subscriptions start at only $10.49 per month
Overview
We like to think of BlackSeniorDating as the polar opposite of eHarmony. Rather than being a wide pool, (an ocean, really), BlackSeniorDating is a much smaller pond made for both seniors and Black people. Even better, its free version is actually workable by itself, although premium memberships are reasonably priced, as well.
Standout Features
We used BlackSeniorDating for free and were impressed with how much we were able to do. Without spending a dime, we were able to see unblurred photos, send out likes, search for people, and actually message them. While other sites like eHarmony have free versions, they usually lack essential features like unblurred photos and messages, so we were really happy that this more niche site offered such a robust free version.
But if you’re willing to spend a little money, the premium features are worthwhile, as well. For example, once we upgraded, we got to send as many messages and “flirts” as we liked, see all of someone’s public photos, browse and watch their public videos, see their entire profiles and their social media handles, and see who liked us. If you want to really dive into someone before meeting them, seeing videos of them as well as their social media profiles is a great way to start.
Pricing
Even though BlackSeniorDating has a great free version, the prices for the premium memberships are relatively low. Sign up for three months and you’ll pay around $11 a month, on par with BlackPeopleMeet. One unique feature is BlackSeniorDating’s five-day trial, which costs only $0.70 a day for a total of $3.49. But note that if you forget to cancel it before the trial ends, it’ll get rebilled at $32.99 a month, making it the most expensive option after the first five days.
BlackSeniorDating Membership Pricing
Term length in months | Cost per month | Total amount billed |
---|---|---|
5 days | $3.49, but rebills at $32.99 per month | $32.99 |
1 month | $23.09 | $23.09 |
3 months | $31.47 | $10.49 |
Even so, BlackSeniorDating is much cheaper than eHarmony or Match, especially with the three-month commitment.
What Others Are Saying
Like BlackPeopleMeet, BlackSeniorDating doesn’t have any customer reviews on Trustpilot or Consumer Affairs. Again, we think that this is because of its relatively small user base.
Drawbacks
BlackSeniorDating lacks the compatibility quiz of a more established site like eHarmony or SilverSingles. Rather, it asked us relatively surface-level questions like our preferred body types and builds, heights, and age ranges. While we appreciated how quick it was to set up a profile, the matches weren’t with people who we were compatible with, necessarily; just people BlackSeniorDating thought we would like based on our preferences.
Our Verdict
If budget is top-of-mind and you want to meet Black seniors completely free of charge, BlackSeniorDating is by far your best option.
Pros
- Meant for both seniors and Black people
- Free version is workable with messages, likes, and unblurred photos
- Quick sign-up process
- Five-day premium trial available
Cons
- No customer reviews on Consumer Affairs and Trustpilot
- No compatibility quiz
Choosing a Dating Site for Seniors
The first thing you should consider when choosing a dating site for seniors is whether you want a more general site like eHarmony and Match, or a more specific site, meant for demographics like seniors (SilverSingles), Black people (BlackPeopleMeet), or both (BlackSeniorDating.net). Once you’ve narrowed that down, choose if you want a simple sign-up process where you fill in your information and preferences only, or something deeper with a long compatibility quiz. Of course, price is a factor. Some websites offer free versions, but they may lack key features like unblurred photos or messages. Consider which sites are affordable and what term lengths are available.
If you’re still unsure, take advantage of a site’s free version. Nearly every dating site offers a free membership for you to test it out, so there’s no harm in signing up. While choosing a dating site may seem daunting, it’s actually very-low stakes, as long as you stay safe, which brings us to our next point …
How to Stay Safe With Online Dating
Before you start dating online, follow these safety tips:
- Don’t send anyone your financial information or money.
- Before you’ve met someone in person, only communicate on the platform itself. We don’t recommend giving out your phone number or email to strangers.
- Don’t share personal information like your home address, Social Security number, or anything about your daily routine.
- Protect your account with a strong password that you don’t use for any other accounts.
- If you come across any requests for money, fraudulent profiles, harassment, or other inappropriate behavior, report it to the dating site.
- The first time you meet someone, plan to do it in person, and tell friends and family where you’re meeting them beforehand. And although it might be chivalrous, we don’t recommend depending on the other person for transportation. Even if they pick you up, have a backup plan for how you can exit, whether it’s Uber, Lyft, or public transportation.
Bottom Line
It is possible to find love as a Black senior, and online dating is a great place to start. Even if you’ve never done it before, you have nothing to lose when you look for love online. For more information, check out our senior dating tips as well as our senior dating statistics.
